The "Gold Halo" is a Black Eye on True Japanese Head Spa

Don’t Let Cheap Equipment Define Your Reputation

The term "Gold Halo" in the context of a Japanese head spa does not inherently indicate a negative aspect of the treatment. It refers to a specific type of spa unit that features a glowing or gold-colored ring, often associated with certain massage techniques or features. However, concerns have been raised about the cleanliness and hygiene of some of these units, specifically that they may utilize recycled water, potentially leading to the recirculation of dead skin cells and oils.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

•    Recycled Water Concerns:
A Japanese head spa trainer informed FASHION Magazine that some spas use units with the "glowing" or gold ring feature that recycle water. This practice raises concerns about the potential for recirculating scalp debris and contaminants, which could be unhygienic.

As you can see in the above image the small pump and hose in the bottom of the sink that recycles the used water back into the rim of the halo over and over throughout your treatment.

•    Hygiene and Scalp Health:
The potential for recirculated water to contain dead skin cells, oils, and other residue could negatively impact scalp health and potentially exacerbate issues like dandruff or irritation.

•    Maintenance and Decline:

Because the Gold Halo recycles water, it clogs the nozzles and filtration system easily with scalp oils and product residue. This leads to frequent maintenance and a quick drop in performance, turning a sleek system into a constant headache for salons.

•    Not All Head Spas are the Same:

It's important to note that not all Japanese head spas utilize recycled water in their "Gold Halo" units. Many reputable spas prioritize hygiene and use fresh, clean water for each client.

•    Importance of Research:
When considering a Japanese head spa treatment, it's crucial to research the specific spa and its practices. Inquire about their water filtration and sanitation procedures, and choose a reputable establishment that prioritizes hygiene

If you’re building a legitimate Japanese Head Spa service — especially at premium prices — the Gold Halo is unlikely to meet professional standards. It's fine as an entry-level or DIY concept, but it doesn't match the performance, comfort, or reliability of true professional systems.

The true Japanese system uses fresh temperature controlled water from the units spray hose, then allows the water to pool, cleansing the hair and creating a relaxing experience, then water overflows the pool and goes safely down the drain.
